About Serra Behar

Serra Behar, born in Istanbul, is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works between Portugal and Turkey. Specializing in sculpture and installation, Serra Behar’s artistic practice is rooted in conceptuality and material exploration. She views artists as individuals who "embody stories," using her work, often interactive, to communicate her profound interest in esoteric matters and history. By using metaphors, she materializes her stories in poetic sculptures and installations.
Serra Behar holds a B.A. Degree from the Scenery, Costume and Puppet Design Department of the Fine Arts Faculty at Mimar Sinan University, followed by a M.A. in Sculpture from the same institution. She further expanded her expertise by studying Experimental and Conceptual Design with animatronic techniques at Nottingham Trent University. Her early artistic projects were showcased in various venues in the UK.
In her practice, Serra Behar employs various animation techniques to bring life to materials such as wires, electronic waste, industrial waste, and found objects. Through these methods, she creates dynamic and thought-provoking pieces that engage and captivate her audience.
She participated in group exhibitions organized by Artsümer Gallery between 2010 and 2011, and in 2012, her works were featured at the Contemporary Istanbul art fair, represented by the same gallery.
Serra Behar has produced sculptural works for various cultural institutions, including Rahmi Koç Museum (2000), Bursa City Museum (2001-2002), Şişli Municipality (2007-2011), and Gedik Holding (2021). She designed and produced the award statuette for the Film Critics Association (SİYAD) in 2008.
Moreover, during her first three months of art residency at PADA Studios, Serra Behar participated in three group exhibitions. Subsequently, she held her first solo exhibition in Lisbon at Casa dell'Arte Lisbon. She is currently living and working in Lisbon, Portugal.
